This week’s Sunday LSD was only 24 km a nothing run compared to the 32km runs I have been used to. I woke up early and ready to conquer my task until I looked outside. It was POURING rain. After consulting Coach Dad, I was advised to hold off a little while until the rain subsided. I waited until 1 pm to head out for my run. This was so unusual to me because: 1) I am used to running with no food in my system and 2) I am used to not having done anything else with my day before my run.

Surprisingly, this was one of the best runs of my training. I decided to change my focus of this run (since everything else was already so out of sorts) to working on maintaining a fairly constant level of exerted effort instead of focussing on pace as I usually would. This worked amazing. In my first 16km, I didn’t even stop for a break at all and only felt the need to take water after slurping back a gel. I also felt so energized because I have eaten 2 carb-heavy meals before hitting the road.
This just goes to show that you never know what will work for you until you make it happen and try out different things.
The rest of the week after that was pretty consistent with this feeling. I went on a few shorter runs and took it pretty relaxed. Only 2 weeks left now!
