This tech-based inquiry project will be based on essentially how well we can integrate technology, such as videography, into athletics in a high school environment.

I am a coach for high school volleyball and basketball and this whole idea came to me in pre-season basketball training last year. I allowed the students to take a 5 minute break to grab some water and naturally all of them grabbed out their phones. One thing that I was not expecting is that they stated to film each other playing basketball. They were taking short clips and watching them back and asking me questions about how it looked. This was a breakthrough for me. The fact that they not only wanted to improve enough to inquire about it, but also were comfortable filming each other was a step in the right direction for individual improvement.

At the school that I coach at, there is some access to filming equipment available. My goal through this project is to be able to assess the effect that the video feedback can have on the students in terms of improvement and understanding of concepts. I hope to be able to not only assess what the students need to improve on but also visually see what I can improve on as their coach and support system.

I am excited to see where this project takes me and potentially see what other sorts of technologies can be integrated into athletics.
